Our group visited Hong Kong Third Airport Construction Project

2019年02月13日 15时00分18秒

Recently, it coincided with the traditional Chinese New Year festival. During this festival, our group leaders arrived in Hong Kong and project technical staff visited the third runway project of the airport. It is reported that this project is the most expensive infrastructure project in Hong Kong history. Concerns such as pollution, huge cost, and possible impact of marine life have attracted much attention. President Xi Jinping of our country also visited the third runway project of Hong Kong Airport. The chairman pointed out during the inspection: "The third runway of Hong Kong Airport Construction is to support Hong Kong's consolidation of the status of international air transport hub and maintain and enhance its overall competitiveness. I hope everyone will Good things are done well to ensure that the project construction is safe and efficient, and the project will be fully effective after it is completed."

According to the technical staff, the three-runway in the expansion is a system that is almost equal to the construction of a new airport next to the existing airport. The projects involved include: reclaiming about 650 hectares of land in the north of the existing airport island. A new passenger terminal, 57 parking spaces, and a 3,800-meter long airport runway. The entire reclamation project will cost HK$56 billion. This visit visited the operation of the Deep Cement Mixing Method, a new technology used in land reclamation projects, which minimizes the leakage of pollutants from land reclamation and the probability of affecting marine life.

At the bow of the engineering ship, you can see the equipment that operates the deep cement mixing method” – three large drill bits and four drill pipes in each drill bit. These drill bits insert the construction drill pipe into the depth of the seabed of 20 to 40 meters, then inject the cement slurry and stir it, mix the cement slurry with the soft mud in the seabed, and strengthen the soft mud into a hard cement column. The cement column strengthens the mud layer and stabilizes the seawall, making the seawall 50 to 200 times harder than the original seabed.

This method is used to reclaim the sea because 40% of the seabed in the northern part of the airport island is planned to be the place where Hong Kong dumps sludge. Therefore, the original method of hydrophobic reclamation is not applicable to this area. The new method of reclamation is like screwing into a red wine bottle with a bottle opener. The bottle opener does not destroy the shape of the wine stopper and the material inside. The original sludge in the seabed does not pollute the construction sea area, and the seabed hardness of the land reclamation area is also strengthened. During the construction period, once the sludge leakage is found, the scope of the project will be isolated by a giant silt to prevent the sludge from spreading. After the cement column is solidified, the protective film is removed and the seabed is restored to its original appearance.

As part of the reclamation area is close to the current airport north runway, many engineering vessels use low headroom rigs for reclamation projects in order not to affect the operation of the existing airport. Some engineering vessels will also operate at night to minimize the impact on existing airports. According to the information released by the AA, the three-runway system after completion in 2030 can handle 102 million passengers per year, 8.9 million metric tons of cargo, and 607,000 aircraft movements. The status of Hong Kong's international aviation hub will further strengthen the prospects. .

From the engineering ship, return to the dinghy that was sitting at the start, you can see the construction ship of Hong Kong's third runway and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge under construction. The construction work of the two large-scale projects will be carried out around the clock in the sea, and the sea, land and air transportation system will meet here, and the traffic in Hong Kong will be more convenient in the future.
